Whether you’re an instructional designer, management consultant, HR practitioner, or performance improvement professional, effective questions are a critical component of establishing trust with your client, and they’re an important means for gathering the information you need to proceed with a successful intervention.

In this session, presenters will advocate for an interdisciplinary approach to questioning by exploring promising practices from the fields of law, medicine and education. There are clear and distinct approaches in each field that can help you re-examine your approach to questioning, with a focus on to effectively partner with your customers, clients, or stakeholders.

Benefits of attending include improved awareness of a consultative approach that will help you connect with clients, diagnose issues, and solve performance problems at the root level.  Influences include Costa’s levels of questioning, motivational interviewing techniques, the interrogation approach, critical thinking, and the Socratic Method.

This session will have a strong focus on cross pollination. You’ll have a chance to practice the three questioning styles in conjunction with performance improvement case study scenarios, and you’ll leave with a better understanding of a multifaceted approach to performance consulting.
