Certification comes in a wide range of sizes and scopes: as small as a “badge” and as large as the CPT. Traditionally, it’s based on knowledge tests or just attendance at training events. But there’s a powerful transformation under way: industries and professions are transitioning to certification based on real-world performance.

Rob Foshay consults on HPT, performance-based assessment and Instructional Design as a founding member and Practice Leader for The Institute for Performance Improvement. His background includes over 35 years of experience in the private sector. He also serves on the faculties of University of North Texas and Walden University. A Life Member of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), he was a co-creator and committee chair of the Certified Performance Technologist (CPT). He has published over 80 articles in reference journals, book chapters, and books.
